IPL treatment is an in-office, non-surgical light treatment using light energy applied to the skin to eliminate skin discoloration and inflammation. This eliminates skin blemishes such as sun spots, spidery vessels, broken vessels, and redness from rosacea. IPL also kills unwanted skin bacteria and mites and minimizes pore size.
At Luminance Vision, IPL is utilized to eliminate inflammation around the eyes and on the eyelids which is the driving force to dry eye disease. The eyes are protected with an eye shield, which looks like a contact lens, placed inside the eyes. The IPL light guide is then applied directly onto the eyelids to seal these blood vessels causing dry eye inflammation. IPL also kills unwanted bacteria and mites which can overpopulate the eyelash margin causing blepharitis.
Inflammation is the driving force behind dry eye disease. When the skin around your eyes are inflamed, your eyes will constantly be in a vicious cycle of ocular rosacea, blepharitis, and meibomian gland dysfunction. Lumecca-I breaks this unhealthy and uncomfortable vicious cycle so that you can produce a healthy tear film and tears to lubricate your eyes without having to supplement with eye drops. Without a healthy tear film, your eyes dry out, get irritated, become inflamed and can flare up causing symptoms of redness, stinging, burning, watery, foreign body sensation, and blurred vision.

Your treatment session will take approximately 20 minutes. You will feel heat applied onto your skin. Most patients report little to no discomfort.
Depending on the goals of your treatment, 4 sessions are usually required to achieve optimal results.

To begin, we’ll place a cover over your eyes for protection and rub a clear gel on the target area.
The handheld device will be placed directly on your skin. When the light is administered, you may feel a mild stinging sensation followed by a quick cooling for comfort.
Patients have described the feeling as similar to the snapping of a rubber band.
An IPL service usually takes around 20–30 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the treatment area.
Immediately after treatment, it may feel like you have a mild sunburn. This sensation usually diminishes within 4–6 hours. Redness is also normal and can last a few days.
While your skin heals, it’s important to avoid sun exposure, wear SPF daily, and use gentle products for cleansing and moisturizing. Our team will go over specific aftercare instructions with you following your session.
